ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Network Security Engineer to join our engineering department. Your primary responsibility will be to install and manage secure network solutions using advanced products and a cutting-edge tech stack. You will work closely with customers, project managers, and internal/external stakeholders to define requirements and configuration of security policies on customer networks. You will also work closely with senior staff to develop and iterate change management processes for customer rollouts.
You will have a pool of direct (or “primary”) customers that you serve as their dedicated project engineer and will partner with their team to build rapport and achieve their goals through a comprehensive understanding of their network environment. You will own support escalations for complex configurations when necessary and will be sought after to mentor junior engineers on troubleshooting and implementation techniques through ad hoc training, as well as cross-train and provide coverage for other engineers when necessary. You will join a highly collaborative environment and work closely with customers, support, and sales engineers to solve complex daily problems.
In this role, you will also be sought to help manage NAN’s internal core network with the same best-in-class security practices that we offer to our customers. You will aid in carrier network design, metro-ethernet, and VRF/MPLS. You should be familiar with systems management concepts including, but not limited to Windows & Linux administration, VMware systems management, and Active Directory. Preferred candidates will encompass Network and Systems engineering into a working set of knowledge that can be transferrable with peers in the organization when specialized knowledge is required.
Technical Order Installation and Configuration
o Partner with customers and internal teams to deploy best-in-class solutions.
o Partner with pre-sales to architect technicalities and design.
o Design change management processes for technical deployments, emphasizing smooth, often multi-tiered maintenance events.
Support Successful Customer Relationships
The Network Security Engineer will be expected to communicate effectively with the client to help them achieve their goals, and when necessary, be the customer’s primary resource or dedicated point of contact
Change Management
Develop the “PEMDAS” of steps required for slow, steady, and secure changes to a customer network
Work with senior staff to refine rollout methodologies
Carrier Networking
Build new MPLS/VRF groups for customer networks
Design routing and failover models for customer and NAN internal carrier networks
Configuration of metro-ethernet connectivity
BGP and OSPF configuration for new ISP peers
Zero Trust and CSMA
Implement and design multi-point security solutions
Integrate and develop complex security policies from multiple data sources
Setup and integration of FortiClient, FortiGate, FortiAnalyzer, and other products
Response & Support
Participate when needed in on-call rotation as an escalation point for after-hours NOC & SOC
Learning & Development
Partner with your manager to dedicate time to professional development and keeping skills current, such as relevant certifications, management training, or project management training
Welcome frequent learning and continuous improvement due to the fast-paced nature of our industry
Assist with training and on-the-job learning for other staff
Assist in research, development, and qualification of emerging technologies
REQUIREMENTS
Strong understanding of networking and network security (CCNA and CCNP, or equivalent)
At least 5-7 years of relevant IT experience
Fortinet NSE 4
Working knowledge of Carrier Network Concepts
Foundational knowledge of Virtualization Concepts, Microsoft & Linux OS
Linux+, Microsoft, and/or VMware Certifications a plus
Deep understanding of key protocols such as DNS, HTTPS, SMTP, IMAP/POP
You are a subject matter expert on at least on of the following highly specific technologies:
ADVPN, OSPF, BGP, EMS, FAZ, ZTNA, or other
Understanding of change management practices (ITIL or CCDA concepts)
Experience with Zero Trust concepts
Knowledge of how threat actors penetrate networks
Working knowledge of Risk Management
Ability to configure devices based on technical outlines prescribed by senior staff and project management
Ability to develop and maintain technical configuration processes for various devices
You are interested in and excited about new technology and enjoy learning quickly
